World Record Cable Car: Ride the Zugspitze Cable Car to Germany's Highest Mountain

Since December 21, 2017, the ultra-modern Zugspitze cable car has been taking visitors to the highest mountain in Germany. During the ride in the spacious cabins with floor-to-ceiling glass, visitors pass by the world's tallest steel support for aerial tramways at 127 meters, conquer the world's largest total height difference of 1,945 meters in one section, and cross the world's longest free span of 3,213 meters.

Seit dem 21. Dezember 2017 erschließt die topmoderne Seilbahn Zugspitze den höchsten Berg Deutschlands. Während der Fahrt in den beiden bodentief verglasten Großraumkabinen passieren Zugspitzbesucher die mit 127 Metern weltweit höchste Stahlbaustütze für Pendelbahnen, überwinden den weltweit größten Gesamthöhenunterschied von 1.945 Metern in einer Sektion sowie das weltweit längste freie Spannfeld mit 3.213 Metern.

Neubau Seilbahn Zugspitze

By the start of the winter season 2025/2026 in Garmisch-Classic, the new Kreuzwankl will be up and running. The facility was completely revamped during the summer season of 2025. Since the end of the last winter season, extensive dismantling and groundwork have taken place. Gradually, support foundations, station buildings, and finally the chairs were added. The new lift system by Doppelmayr is an 8-seater chairlift. With a slower circulation speed at the valley station, getting on will be more comfortable for guests. Plus, the entry area is height-adjustable, making it easier for ski schools, beginners, and kids to hop on.

Zum Start der Wintersaison 2025/2026 im Garmisch-Classic geht der neue Kreuzwankl in Betrieb. Die Anlage wurde während der Sommersaison 2025 komplett erneuert. Seit Ende der letzten Wintersaison haben umfangreiche Rückbau- sowie Tiefbauarbeiten stattgefunden. Nach und nach kamen Stützfundamente, Stationsgebäude und zu guter Letzt die Sessel hinzu. Bei der neuen Liftanlage der Firma Doppelmayr handelt es sich um eine 8er-Sesselbahn. Durch die langsamere Umlaufgeschwindigkeit in der Talstation ist der Einstieg für Gäste künftig angenehmer. Außerdem ist der Einstiegsbereich höhenverstellbar, sodass ein erfolgreiches Einsteigen vor allem für Skischulen und Skikurse, Anfänger und Kinder komfortabler wird.

In September 2019, construction began on the new Zugspitzbahnhof in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The new building is located across from the Olympic Ice Sports Center and houses not only the station but also new administrative offices. Around 50 trades, mostly from the surrounding area, have been involved since September 2019. Since its opening in November 2020, passengers can enjoy more comfort. The new, wheelchair-accessible station building offers modern infrastructure, including a guidance system for the visually impaired, and a covered platform for guests. Architecturally, the complex represents a mix of modern and traditional styles, featuring glass and wood elements as well as natural stone from Tyrolean Kolsass near Innsbruck. In addition to the new cogwheel railway station, around 60 employees of the Bavarian Zugspitzbahn have also found a new workplace in the integrated administration wing since 2020.

Im September 2019 begannen die Bauarbeiten für den neuen Zugspitzbahnhof in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Das neue Gebäude steht vis-a-vis des Olympia-Eissport-Zentrums und beherbergt neben dem Bahnhof auch neue Verwaltungsräumlichkeiten. Rund 50 Gewerke, größtenteils aus dem Umkreis, waren seit September 2019 im Einsatz. Über mehr Komfort können sich die Fahrgäste seit der Eröffnung im November 2020 freuen. Das neue, rollstuhlgerechte Bahnhofsgebäude bietet neben moderner Infrastruktur inklusive Blindenleitsystem auch einen überdachten Bahnsteig für die Gäste. Architektonisch steht der Komplex für einen Mix aus Moderne und Tradition, in welchem Glas- und Holzelemente sowie Naturstein aus dem Tiroler Kolsass bei Innsbruck verbaut wurden. Neben dem neuen Bahnhof der Zahnradbahn haben seit 2020 auch rund 60 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter der Bayerischen Zugspitzbahn im integrierten Verwaltungstrakt einen neuen Arbeitsplatz.
