Bissendorf A30

As part of this project, a bridge on the A30 was extensively renovated. For this, an external tensioning system was installed under the bridge structure. Simply put: thick, heavy-duty cables are placed under the bridge in both longitudinal and transverse directions. These cables are tensioned, which stabilizes the bridge structure and significantly extends the lifespan of the construction. This technique can be applied to existing bridges after the fact and while they are still in use, both of which are major advantages compared to traditional renovation methods or new constructions. Still, it's a highly complex project that requires a lot of planning upfront.
