Project Description

Since 2009, we've been doubling down on renewables. Our expansion campaign aims to meet Munich's energy needs with green electricity from our own facilities. And the progress is impressive: by the end of 2022, we've implemented projects that can generate up to 6.3 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity annually – that's about 90 percent of our original goal.

When it comes to expanding green electricity production, projects in the greater Munich area take priority. We already operate more than 80 power, heat, and cooling plants in and around Munich that use renewable energy. Many regional projects are in the pipeline. In the city, the focus is on rooftop photovoltaics. Additionally, we plan to build and operate more ground-mounted photovoltaic systems on our own land and leased land in the surrounding areas.

Because the Munich metropolitan area and its region are densely populated and sunlight and wind are only available to a limited extent, we can't generate as much green electricity locally as we need. That's why we also produce green electricity with partners at other locations in Europe.
