Located in the connecting bridge between two high-rise buildings at Kottbusser Tor, there was a approximately 250 m² cinema hall, which was later used as a betting office. Under the leadership of our construction manager Andreas Bohlmann, the most modern police station in Berlin was created here in record time of only six months, significantly increasing the security of the area through its presence and direct contact point. The already gutted object presented a structural challenge with the prestressed concrete construction of the concrete beam, which only allowed us to make fastenings within the wall surfaces with a lot of effort. It was also tricky that the entire building services and water pipes of both high-rise buildings were located in the area of the emerging police station. For this reason, we built a second ceiling level with a soundproof ceiling and provided it with a kind of pool sealing to protect the station from possible water damage. The construction requirements ranged from bulletproof windows and doors, electronic access control systems, video surveillance, a new air conditioning and ventilation system, an armory, soundproof interrogation rooms, new sanitary facilities to a solid fitted kitchen.
This comprehensive project offered ideal conditions for a cooperation of our Berlin HWP branches: W. Tschirch construction company for the structural, masonry, plastering and screed works; Kaminski and Brendel for the painting works, Hauptstadt Maler & Ausbauer HWP for the drywall, flooring and painting works on the facade, and finally GTB building technology Berlin for the air conditioning, ventilation and sanitary systems. Due to the high security requirements for electrical work, windows and doors, we involved specialized companies. Around 100 craftsmen were involved in this construction project.
Special features:
- Implementation of construction measures in record time of 6 months
- Handling of the prestressed concrete construction
- Particularly demanding sealing work
- Installation of bulletproof windows weighing over 800 kg
