Project Description
A new section of the B48n federal road was needed for the Imsweiler bypass. The project included a bridge and a tunnel. HOCHTIEF Infrastructure GmbH was hired by LBM Kaiserslautern to build the Mühlberg Tunnel. The tunnel was dug using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) with standard digging and blasting. Since there are houses nearby, they used a low-vibration blasting plan. They also managed to dig right over the existing train tunnel in Imsweiler without causing any damage.
