Long-distance and S-Bahn feeder Bad Cannstatt (Lot 3) From the Stg-Bad Cannstatt station, the long-distance tracks from Ulm are routed over a new bridge across the Neckar. The Neckar bridge is not part of the ATC scope of work. Following the railway bridge over the Neckar, the route first leads through two double-track tunnels (long-distance and S-Bahn tunnels) under Rosensteinpark. In the Ehmannstraße area, the long-distance line from/to Bad Cannstatt runs to the main station in two single-track tubes. The long-distance tunnel from Bad Cannstatt to the main station is at a deeper level because the long-distance tubes from/to Feuerbach have to be passed underneath at around railway km 1.1. The S-Bahn to Stg-Bad Cannstatt passes under the long-distance tunnel and then runs parallel to the long-distance Rosenstein tunnel in its own double-track tunnel. It then joins the long-distance line across the new Neckar bridge and reaches the Stg-Bad Cannstatt station. The ground cover varies: in the Rosensteinpark area, for example, it's up to about 14 m, in the Ehmannstraße area 3 m, in other sections up to about 16 m, and it's lowest at about 2 m in the area of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) on Jägerstraße. P-Option The long-distance feeder Stg-Feuerbach is the most heavily used section of the Stuttgart 21 project. The capacities of the new tunnel routes and the main station, as planned in this approval process, significantly exceed today's long-distance traffic volume. This means the need for implementing the P-Option is there. In the regional planning process, it was therefore required to ensure the possibility of expanding to four-track traffic from the new line from Mannheim to the main station by keeping the existing long-distance tracks through the Pragtunnel and feeding them into the two new long-distance tunnels between Stg-Bad Cannstatt and the main station.
