Project Description

Integration of E-Mobility into Distribution Networks Using Decentralized Flexibility:

The high battery capacities of the new generation of electric vehicles and the desire for the shortest possible charging times lead to the use of charging facilities with increasingly higher power. A strong temporal and local concentration of the demand for charging power results in load peaks. As a result, there can be both overloading of equipment and unacceptably high or low network voltages. Possible solutions depend heavily on the grid topology of the power network and the expected charging behavior. Another challenge is the predictive analysis and evaluation of the network protection concept. Neither the charging behavior of electric vehicles nor the use of flexibility potentials should, under normal operation, lead to an unacceptable triggering or even to unacceptable activations of protective devices, in order to avoid unwanted supply interruptions.

The study examines how the standard-compliant use of decentralized flexibility potentials can support the integration of e-mobility. Existing planning and operational principles can be adjusted if necessary. Insights into possible negative, but also positive impacts on equipment utilization, voltage quality, and network protection technology will be communicated to the relevant associations and standardization bodies.
