Project Description
In 2023, the new vehicle safety center of AUDI AG started its operations. The building, with a gross floor area of 33,000 square meters, is nestled into the new incampus site in Ingolstadt. The heart of this massive structure is the crash arena, a space that is completely support-free over an area of 50 x 50 meters. To protect the enormous hall from unwanted visitors, it is secured at all entrances and inside by 22 fast-moving doors from EFAFLEX.
"In this building and the outdoor area, we need to ensure prototype security, which is why it's absolutely necessary for the doors to be burglar-proof and have quick opening and closing speeds," explains Carina Müller, an architect and employee in the Building Infrastructure department of AUDI AG. She has been leading the vehicle safety center project from planning through to realization and completion. She has already partially answered the question about the requirements for the doors from the specialist EFAFLEX. On the outside of the building, the doors have been given the RAL color of the building envelope. This makes them blend almost invisibly into the overall appearance of the large cube.
All doors were specially designed for the project and include between three and four special features that are not standard in the delivery package. The EFA-SST® Premium variants L, S, and ÜS also offer excellent thermal insulation between 0.66 and 1.52 W/sqmK, depending on the door size. "We want to reduce the primary energy demand by 10 percent with the help of the insulation of our building envelopes, so the doors also need to have a high insulation value," Carina Müller further explains.
