Project Description
Brauckmann & Damm got the job for the earthworks to build the new district heating tunnel. This includes digging the start and end shafts for the tunnel boring machine. The shafts are up to 38 meters deep. The district heating generation in Hamburg is set to change fundamentally in the coming years. Central power plants north of the Elbe will be shut down and replaced by an efficient and decentralized heating network. Climate-neutral waste heat will come from various sources, including a waste-to-energy plant, a sewage treatment plant's heat pump, and other energy-intensive industries south of the Elbe. The heat will be collected in a storage loop and brought to the required temperature level. To reach consumers north of the Elbe, a new Elbe crossing is needed. This will be drilled about two kilometers west of the Elbe Tunnel on the A7 motorway from Köhlfleethafen near Finkenwerder towards the northern Elbchaussee.
